Optional: Use a partition manager to extend the space of system drive using the unallocated space in the SD card. Once located, make a note of the drive letter. Open an elevated Command Prompt and navigate to the directory where you extracted WinPatch. Power on the Raspberry Pi 4 and set up Windows 10 as you normally do. On the desktop, open Task Manager and double-check the installed memory. Press Enter to run the command. However, before you begin, please note that this is not an official Microsoft product and the source of the images and software used is from a passionate and vibrant community working together to create this project.

The Windows 11 image file is easy to source but there is a process that we have to follow in order to create a valid image which can be used with our Raspberry Pi. At the time of writing, this project runs surprisingly well see below for more details but has a lot of caveats. Audio via HDMI is also not available but audio via the 3. This did not go as expected. The images were successfully written to the drive, and they did indeed boot, but they failed at the device discovery portion of the setup.

After discussing the issue with YouTuber leepspvideo , it turned out that our USB 3 caddy was to blame. So we opted to use an Argon M. This worked the first time, and the added bonus is that our Pi is kept cool. Note that this update can only be performed using the official Raspberry Pi OS, it cannot be done via Windows Select No to use the latest boot ROM.

This will trigger the Raspberry Pi to complete a series of behind the scenes configuration steps. Press Ok to close the next dialog. Note that if there is a bootable micro SD card inserted, the Raspberry Pi will boot using that. Choose the edition of Windows 11 that you would like. We chose Windows Home and Pro. After flashing, you can remove the SD card. After the microSD card is in the Pi and the monitor, network cable and mouse are connected, you can start it.

After a short setup you will be shown the language options, after which you will be on the main screen:. Your PC should be on the same network as the Pi. Since this Windows version, as I said, has no other graphical interface, it is completely controlled by Visual Studio. The easiest way is to follow the indicated steps on the Pi. Keep in mind that most devices do not have GPIOs, so the benefits are rather dubious. However, the speech recognition from Microsoft could be interesting in any case.

First, you will have to insert SD card to your card reader and then, you can choose what version of OS you would like to install. In this step, you will also choose device name, and you have to set device password. Here, it is good to notice that when you try to login to your device, username is administrator also now it is possible to set up WiFi connection directly to your SD card so when you boot your device for the first time, it will connect automatically. After you set up everything, the program will start downloading selected Windows version.

Currently in 4. When this is ready, another command line window will appear and system will be written to your SD card. This entire process took about 10 - 15 minutes, depends on size of SD card you use. As you can see, it took about 4 minutes to boot the first time. When you set up WiFi Connection, it connects automatically and you do not have to set it up on Raspberry. Normal boot up took about 2 minutes, and there is no user interaction needed. Sometimes, it can happen that system is unable to read your SD card.

Then, you can get this screen. Just try few more times, and if it is not helping try to flash your SD card again. If even this will not work, try another SD card, maybe the SD card is broken. User experience in most of the app is rather bad, even the default app which is pre-installed on image is sometimes laggy on Raspberry Pi 3, on Raspberry Pi 2 it is even worse.

But there are still some bright sides, so let's have a look at it.

Log In. You can use 32GB or larger microSD card. Faster is better, so you should get class A1 or A2 card. Ethernet or WiFi dongle. Keyboard, mouse, monitor.

Windows 10 version , version and are tested. Download and run Windows on Raspberry WoR tool. Select your ARM image. In the Configuration screen, select advanced and change memory limit to MB.

Click Next and press Install. The installation process can take as long as three hours to complete and it depends on the speed of the microSD. Close the WoR tool. Optional: Use a partition manager to extend the space of system drive using the unallocated space in the SD card. In , we tried installing a hacked version of Windows 10 on a Raspberry Pi 3 and it ran, but it was extremely painful to use.

However, before you begin, please note that this is not an official Microsoft product and the source of the images and software used is from a passionate and vibrant community working together to create this project. At the time of writing this project runs surprisingly well see below for more details but has a lot of caveats.

Visit the Windows on Raspberry Pi Discord server and go to the Downloads channel to Download the latest stable image, currently 0. Insert microSD card and select the drive.

The Raspberry Pi 4 mode is currently experimental, but has worked reliably in our tests. The installation process can take as long as two hours to complete, depending on the speed of the microSD card. Extract the contents. Locate the drive containing the Windows 10 on ARM installation, make a note of the drive letter. Change the drive letter to match your installation.

Overclock the Raspberry Pi. Edit the config. Add these two lines at the end of the file. Overclocking will require cooling for your Raspberry Pi. Eject the microSD card and insert it into the Raspberry Pi 4. Connect your keyboard, mouse etc and power on the Pi. Follow the standard Windows 10 install process and after a short while you are ready to use Windows 10 on your Raspberry Pi 4. Press Enter to run the command. Install Microsoft Edge by double clicking on the Microsoft Edge desktop icon.

Installing software works in the same manner as a typical Windows 10 install. Windows 10 on Raspberry Pi is usable, but more as a proof-of-concept than a daily driver. Boot times were considerably longer than Raspberry Pi OS, at a sluggish 2 minutes 12 seconds. Once the desktop was loaded the overall feel of Windows 10 on Raspberry Pi was responsive. The Edge web browser provided a good browsing experience.
